User’s Guide to the ILO Training Tool Box

The ILO Training Tool Box is first and foremost a trainer’s tool. It is our hope that indigenous organisations around the world on the basis of this material will be able to carry out courses for local activists and indigenous community leaders and thereby increase capacity to promote and implement their rights. Other target groups are development workers and government officials working with indigenous peoples, as well as students with an interest in the subject. 

With the exception of the longer documentaries and films, all the materials in the Tool Box are available online, and can either be used directly or be downloaded and used in training courses.

The complete Tool Box as well as the longer documentaries and films are also available on CD-ROMs and DVDs, which can be ordered from the Pro 169 team (order Tool Box). Also, the Pro 169 team may be able to provide you with printed copies of key materials for distribution to participants. Please contact our team for more details.

The use of the materials in the Tool Box will be at the trainer’s choice, depending on the needs of the participants, the time and resources available etc. The material can be used as a full package, including the contents of each and every section. This would provide the participants with a broad knowledge on many aspects of the situation of indigenous peoples, but would also demand a course with an approximate duration of one week.  Another option is to focus on just a few sections of the Tool Box, for a shorter course – or simply just use the materials as input and references in other courses. 

It is our hope that the material provided will achieve its purpose and become the basis of many inspiring and motivating courses for indigenous peoples and others around the world. We wish you a good time.
